Evolution of the Daleks

Evolution of the Daleks (Tenth, 2007) Evolut10

The Empire State building is near complete and the Dalek's gross plan seems to be underway with a new creation born. Is 1920s New York doomed?

What did you think of this one? Should we all fear a human Dalek? Did the accents actually get worse in this half? Is this the best Dalek story of all time? What does Andrew Garfield mean that he's proud to be in these episodes? Are these questions too unfair due to my obvious bias against this?

This episode is available on Amazon Prime, Netflix Instant and DVD.

So this episode is cool because it explores "What is a Dalek?" Of course a Dalek is an alien creature but also something more. It's a mentality, a way of life, destruction, and feelings of superiority. So it's really interesting that those who are human can also be Dalek because they have that mentality. \

It also shows that Daleks aren't perfect. Daleks are supposed to take orders from their leader, in this episode, Dalek-sec. Yet they clearly don't and kill him. So it's interesting that the soldier mentality is not as ingrained as the Extermination mentality.

Episode itself was okay.

Again, just not a fan of this particular Dalek story. It is interesting to look into exactly what a Dalek is but I honestly thought the Season 1 episode "Dalek" addressed that better than this.

I also kind of forgot that the Cult of Skaro was at the center of this episode and they all eventually get wiped out. I think they're a cool little subset of the Daleks...gives us a different perspective. Still hope they can show up somehow in Asylum of the Daleks.

I also sort of love in the end how the Doctor offers to help Dalek-Caan...knowing what it's like to be the last of your species and having just witnessed genocide. I think the Doctor uses that term a touch too often, but you know. Interesting to see the Doctor always offering to help...even when it's his enemies.

Evolution of the Daleks (Tenth, 2007) Empty You Guys Are Too Nice

This may be a little bit better than the first part, but it's still awful. I remember when I first watched it, I had to wait a week from that cliffhanger. I was already for a cold sociopath of a human Dalek. A new force to encounter that won't be predictable. Nope, it was incredibly lame with the typical sci-fi dryness of "What does it mean to be human?"

Why did The Doctor really offer to die just to save a few random people in Hooverville? So dumb, even though Tennant really sold it.

Awful. Really ruined the New Series set of Dalek episodes.
