The Daleks' Master Plan

The Dalek's Master Plan (First, 1965) Daleks12

This may be one of the most epic Doctor Who stories ever. It's the longest serial with 12 episodes, which is about 5 hours long. It has the first Christmas dedicated episode and even has a plan where the Daleks are succeeding.

But nine of the episodes are missing. So not only is this about 5 hours long, only a bit over an hour is actually in motion. This will easily be the most vibrant thread in this forum. I've seen this and I'll watch it again for this marathon. It is quite good. Plenty of good villains and a fascinating conclusion. You should watch it!

Nobody is going to watch this.

Here is the link to the first part on DailyMotion: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xn88px_the-daleks-master-plan-part1-the-nightmare-begins_shortfilms?search_algo=1

What did you think of it? Were you surprised to see who showed up? Did you like the Feast of Steven? Did Katarina's plotline shock you?

The Dalek's Master Plan (First, 1965) Empty The Daleks' Master Plan

Holy crap, this was long. I persevered though. I felt like this could have been a few episodes shorter. The Feast of Steven as a Christmas special obviously didn't fit, and I felt like we wasted a bunch of time in Egypt and with that damn monk, but overall the story was pretty good and the serial ended well.

I was surprised by the amount of death in this serial. Katarina, Bret, and Sara. I was actually super-bummed to see Sara die...I was hoping she would become a companion because she was actually likable.

Chen's arrogance throughout the serial always surprised me as well. I don't know why he thought he was going to become master of all, especially because he kept failing at getting the taranium back. The daleks seem a little more ruthless in this story. First of all, they shoot FIRE. Which is awesome...but even when a Dalek ship fails to get the Doctor on Desperus, they just destroy it because they failed. Interesting to see them get a little bit more evil every time we see them.

This was really long. It had a lot of dumbs part that dragged down the story a lot. The Feast of Stephen, Egypt, the Monk in general. But overall, it was a pretty good serial. This is the first time I've really liked the First Doctor. He was actually doing some cool things and just being awesome. Definitely surprised by how many of the good guys died.

Won't people learn that you can't trust the Daleks? Or I think this is the first time people think they can trust the Daleks. I've gone all out of order. Hello sweetie, spoilers.

Daleks were very evil this time around and I'm enjoying it.

The Dalek's Master Plan (First, 1965) Empty Guys....

The Monk is awesome. Perhaps this is because I watched his first story, The Time Meddler, and his return made the universe seem more impressive where villains can come in and out to fuck with things. Yet I really like that he is once again only there to screw with The Doctor. He was a Time Lord before they even invented what that was. He was the only one seemingly like The Doctor that we've seen and he's a total dick. I loved it.

Anywho, this is still too long, but I don't care that much. Watching episode 10 that was recovered made me relove the story again. If all 12 parts were available, I think this would be seen as one of the greats because this sucker feels epic. Not just because of its length, but there are real consquences. It's a bit silly that the whole story is revolved around getting this one thing back, but that's because their plan is almost finished. Everything after the Feast of Steven is my favorite part, but Katarina's death is very sad and Bret was a great character. I think Chen is a solid villain and that goofy sounding guy who looks like a demented clown reminds me of the villain from The Caves of Androzani, which is a good thing. Also the ending is badass.

Yet, The Feast of Steven still sucks and Steven is still one of my least favorite companions because he's really dull.

The First Doctor is awesome! Now onto an even better Doctor who sadly just has stills for his Dalek stories. May be tempted to watch The Tomb of the Cybermen or The Three Doctors during this time....

Pre-Brig Nicholas Courtney!

I think this is the first Hartnell story I've seen after Ian and Barbara left, and I continue to be amazed at how much of an adventurer this Doctor is becoming. This is the man the Second Doctor is meant to be a younger version of. I always thought of Ian as the hero and the Doctor as the man with the keys to the time machine.

This story moves all around. A stop on one planet to pick up the necessary ingredients for Katarina's departure, Earth, and then getting swept by a really goofy transporter to somewhere entirely random, and that's just in the first third. (The Doctor doesn't look like he's in pain, his expression looks like a loopy grin)

I'm stopping after episode 5 tonight. I'll finish it tomorrow.

So, The Feast of Stephen. That was... even more irrelevant than I expected. It would have been better if they skipped the part with the police, had more of a plot, and didn't interrupt a longer story with it. But still a rather amusing bit of fluff.

Apparently, the villains are Chen, the Daleks, and some seat-filling aliens that do nothing but throw aspersions around like beads on Mardi Gras.

What's with all the jumping around in time all of a sudden? Is the Helmic Regulator on the fritz? Wink (Oh,apparently I missed the bit where the navigational thingy broke).

Surprised to see Sara Kingdom die. She fell into the companion role so quickly, and I've seen so much talk about her, I assumed she was going to continue. Looking her up, apparently she was popular enough to get prequel and interquel adventures.
